Mr. Barnard began finding arrowheads as a young boy in Florida, however arrowhead hunting did not become a serious interest until he was a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the late 1960s. At the time, a guide for identifying artifacts for the region was not available to the public, so he took his finds to the Anthropology Department at UNC to be identified.
