MurphyBrooklynPublished by the Society1867. Antique, immediate post US Civil War era three quarters leatherbound hardcover book with marbled paper covered boards in overall good condition. Book is the complete Voyage to New York in 1679 to 1680 by Dankers and Sluyter but is Volume I of the Long Island Historical Society's "Memoirs" series and is here presented as a stand alone, original period edition. Exterior shows rubbing to the outer corners and edges of the boards and spine and the back cover board's hinge is split and cracked but still connected to the rest of the book via a clothbacked bookbinder's tape strip at the back inside hinge gutter and is firmly connected to the rest of the book though the white of the tape can also be seen in the hinge from the outside of the back cover. Interior of the book is overall very clean with some pencil notations on the front and back endpapers as well as a tipped in 1909 letter from a Long Island Historical Society member preceding the title page and some minor tatters to the outer page fore edges here and there. Book also has a 1941 Long Island Historical Society paper slip inside of it. Book has 12 plates at the back of it, the majority of which are fold outs which are overall all in very good or better condition with the exception of plate III which is split into three pieces. Book's binding is overall intact with the aforementioned repair to the back cover hinge and the book is complete with all pages present and none coming loose, detached or missing. Book totals 440 pages, measures approximately 9 3/8 x 6 1/4 x 1 5/8 inches and weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.
